EB virus particles were isolated in sucrose gradients from radioactively labeled, arginine-deprived EB3 and GOR cell lines of Burkitt lymphoblasts. The particles, of the herpesvirus type, contained radioactive DNA and protein. Analysis of EBV DNA yielded molecules which had a sedimentation constant in sucrose gradients and a density similar to herpes simplex virus DNA. Analysis of the EBV and herpes simplex virus coat proteins by acrylamide gel electrophoresis demonstrated the presence of eight similar proteins in the virus particles. © 1969.
