A PORTABLE SYSTEM FOR THE CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT OF RN-222 IN HOSTILE GEOPHYSICAL ENVIRONMENTS

摘要
A proportional counter has been developed for the continuous measurement of Rn-222 in particularly hostile environmental conditions. This portable instrument has a one month autonomy and the detection sensitivity allows activity exceeding 41 Bq/m3 to be measured. The system is also adapted for volcanology and seismology observations, since Rn-222 is considered as a possible earthquake prediction signal. This apparatus has been tested regarding its ability to measure variations in radon concentration which are used as a tracer for understanding the geophysical processes that induce gases in the ground.
