EFFECT OF PRESSURE ON FORMATION OF COLLAGEN IN PERIODONTAL LIGAMENT

This study revealed that in the control animal, which was free of orthodontic movement, there was no evidence of significant new collagen formation. In the ligament of animals to which orthodontic movement was effected, on both the pressure and tension sides of the ligament, the site of new collagen formation in the periodontal ligament was always near the bone. The rapid reorganization was accompanied by wide distribution of new collagen formation. Under the conditions of this study, no evidence of the so-called intermediate plexus" was seen in the periodontal ligaments. © 1969."
