VIBRATIONAL-SPECTRA AND NORMAL COORDINATE CALCULATIONS FOR METHYLMERCURY(II) CYANIDE-D0 AND CYANIDE-D3

IR spectra (4000-30 cm-1) of methylmercury(II) cyanide-do and -d3 have been obtained in carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, chloroform and benzene solutions, as well as in the solid state at liquid nitrogen temperature. Raman spectra (4000-0 cm-1) have also been recorded on benzene and aqueous solutions, and on the melt. It appears that the previous workers' assignment for the CHgC deformation vibration seems to be incorrect. Normal coordinate calculations have been carried out with a symmetry force field in order to ascertain the assignments. It is also suggested that methylmercury(II) cyanide has a charge-transfer interaction with benzene. © 1979.
