A systematic procedure is proposed for defuzzifying fuzzy subsets and interval values employing the concept of sensitivity analysis with a kind of minmax principle such that the defuzzification minimizes the sensitivity rating the discrepancy between a would-be most appropriate defuzzified value and the unknown ideal value of defuzzification in the possible worst case. A criterion of defuzzification can be built into the sensitivity to give a rationale to the defuzzified value. As examples, defuzzification with respect to a criterion of distance and minimization problems of two types of functions with fuzzy parameters are discussed.
