摘要
A precise measurement of the Mössbauer isomer shift vs. temperature for anhydrous FeCl3 disclosed a slight discontinuity at approximately 250°K. Although previous heat capacity data betrayed no indication of a phase transition, a change in the hexagonal close-packed chlorine lattice at room temperature to a face-centered cubic one at lower temperature was postulated. The hypothesis was confirmed by X-ray powder photographs. The Mössbauer data indicate that the fee phase may be metastable. © 1968.
