Sleeping sickness is a disease of tropical Africa caused by the trypanosome parasite transmitted by the tsetse fly. In this article Michel Dumas and Paul Girard describe the course, diagnosis, and treatment of this infection which has its principal effects on the nervous system. © 1979.
