摘要
The heat of transfer of N-methylacetamide from CCl4to water (-7.8 kcal/mole) has been calculated from calorimetric measurements of heats of solution. This combined with other thermodynamic data indicates that there is a negative enthalpy change when an amide hydrogen bond in an apolar environment is exposed to aqueous solvent, as may occur in unfolding of proteins. The concentration dependence of the relative apparent molal heat content has been used in addition to obtain an independent evaluation of the equilibrium constant and enthalpy of self-association of N-methylacetamide in CCl4solution. © 1969, American Chemical Society.
