GLUCOSPHINGOLIPID SYNTHESIS IN THE CELLULAR SLIME-MOLD DICTYOSTELIUM-DISCOIDEUM

摘要
The transfer of glucose from UDP-[14C]glucose to endogenous acceptors has been examined using a particulate fraction prepared from Dictyostelium discoideum. In the presence of EDTA, the sole product is a 14C-labeled glucolipid with the chemical and chromatographic properties of a monoglucosylceramide containing a hydroxy fatty acid. While the reaction does not require a divalent cation, various cations stimulate or inhibit the transferase activity. Other nucleotide sugars have little or no effect on the reaction. Preliminary studies suggest that glycosphingolipid metabolism is developmentally regulated in D. discoideum. © 1979.
