Copolymerizations of 2-amino-4-(substituted anilino)-6-isopropenyl-1, 3, 5-triazines (M2) with MMA and MA (M1) were carried out in dimethyl sulfoxide at 60°C using azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. Monomer reactivity ratios (r1and r2) and the Q and e values determined for these isopropenyl-1, 3, 5- triazines are 0.37~ 0.50, 0.47~0.80, 0.92~1.29 and −0.70~−0.80 for MMA and 0.11~0.17, 0.83~1.72, 1.07~1.76 and −0.63~−0.80 for MA, respectively. It was found that the effect of substituent in the anilino group of the isopropenyl-1, 3, 5-triazines on 1/r1 followed the Hammett's equation and p values were given as +0.15 for MMA and +0.21 for MA. Glass transition temperatures of the copolymers were determined by DSC. A plot of Tgagainst the content of triazine (m2) in the copolymer is linear when m2is more than 20 mol%. © 1979, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan. All rights reserved.
