PROTON MAGNETIC RESONANCE SPECTRA OF ETHYLENE PHOSPHITES AND ETHYLENE SULFITE

Complete analyses of proton magnetic resonance spectra are reported for three ethylene phosphites and for ethylene sulfite neat, in benzene, and in chloroform. The vicinal H-C-C-H and P-O-C-H coupling constants indicate that the ethylene phosphites appear to prefer twist-envelope conformations. This result may be generally applicable to the conformation of five-membered rings. © 1968, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
