MOMENTUM DISTRIBUTION IN FREE-ELECTRON LASER

摘要
The momentum distribution function, its spread, and the gain function for the free electron laser (FEL) are derived from the classical single particle theory of the FEL. The results are in good agreement with a previous theory by Hopf et al., who used a collisionless relativistic Boltzmann equation for the description of the laser operation. We show that the maximum gain is achieved for an interaction time greater than that at which the momentum spread is maximum. © 1978.
