The paper describes the procedure and results of investigation of heat transfer in ferromagnetic suspensions with an unstable structure specified by magnetization and magnetodipole interaction of particles of a disperse phase. An anisotropic character of heat conduction is revealed that manifests itself as enhancement of heat transfer in the direction of the field and decrease of heat conduction in the perpendicular direction. A marked increase in the heat-transfer rate in magnetorheological systems is shown to occur due to the breakdown of structure by shear flow. An interpretation of the mechanism of the observed phenomena is proposed. © 1979.
