VIBRATIONAL LINESHAPES OF ADSORBATES ON SOLID-SURFACES

An overview of the current status of surface vibrational spectroscopy of adsorbates on solid surfaces, especially metal surfaces, is presented. The most representative techniques for vibrational analysis are briefly described together with the theory of spectral lineshapes pertinent to vibrational excitations. The various possible line broadening mechanisms are discussed together with photodesorption. Recent topics of the vibrational spectroscopic studies of adsorbates on solid surfaces are included.
