IRREVERSIBLE POISONING OF PD-AG MEMBRANES

摘要
Significant irreversible poisoning of a palladium-silver (Pd-Ag) membrane was observed when a commercial bimetallic noble metal dehydrogenation catalyst containing germanium (Gel and chlorine (Cl) was tested in a catalytic membrane reactor (CMR). The presence of Ge on the membrane surface, verified by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), reduced its H-2 permeability by 35%. Structural differences of the membranes' surface were also observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
