HOW USEFUL ARE LABORATORY-DETERMINED GROWTH-CURVES FOR THE ESTIMATION OF SIZE-SPECIFIC MORTALITIES IN DAPHNIA POPULATIONS

摘要
The estimation of size-specific mortalities of zooplankton populations is strongly dependent on the estimation of somatic growth in the lake. Several laboratory growth experiments at different temperatures and times were conducted to examine if growth of the lake population can be reconstructed from a general-shaped growth curve and the size at first reproduction in the lake. It is shown that reconstruction of growth curves is possible if there are no strong interaction effects of food and temperature on the age at first reproduction.
