THE INFLUENCE OF THE SPIN ORBIT AND THE HYPERFINE INTERACTION ON THE ASYMPTOTIC-BEHAVIOR OF THE A-1-SIGMA-U+ STATE OF NA2

摘要
The vibrational structure of the A 1-SIGMA-u+ excited state of Na2 has been investigated using a molecular beam experiment. Vibrational levels with quantum numbers up to 184 have been accessed. The highest is about 0.025 cm-1 below the dissociation limit and its outer turning point corresponds to a separation of the two atoms of about 200 angstrom. A more precise dissociation energy of 22978.21 (10) cm-1 with respect to the minimum of the ground state is derived. The spin-orbit and the hyperfine interaction split the manifold of the atomic asymptote Na(S-2) + Na(P-2). Their influence on the asymptotic behaviour of the A 1-SIGMA-u+ state of Na2 is qualitatively discussed.
