STUDIES ON PREPARATIVE ELECTROPHORESIS APPARATUS - SOME EMINENT ADVANTAGES OF THE ELUTION CHAMBER SANDWICHED BETWEEN GEL COLUMN HALVES

The elution chamber of a preparative-scale electrophoresis apparatus is extremely important and determines the performance of the apparatus as a whole. Equipment provided with an elution chamber between two gel layers has put a quick end to various problems that have been seen up to date in many apparatuses with a dialysis membrane or a glass filter between the elution and lower electrode chambers (Table 1). The use of a membrane together with gel layers has a mutually compensatory effect and makes for an apparatus much closer to the ideal. In the following deseription only dimensions of the apparatuses tested which materially affected the performance are shown. It is obvious that there may be considerable latitude in the cholce of materials and constructional detall. © 1979.
