ENZYMATIC DETERMINATION OF CREATINE IN SERUM AND CEREBROSPINAL FLUID

The NADH-linked procedure for the determination of creatine was modified to allow its application to serum and cerebrospinal fluid by precipitating proteins with trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and extracting TCA from the supernatant with diethyl ether. In adults, normal values obtained with this method were 0.25 mg/100 ml and 0.52 mg/100 ml for serum and cerebrospinal fluid, respectively, the average concentration of creatine in cerebrospinal fluid being higher than in serum by a factor of about two. © 1968.
