VOLTAMMETRIC BEHAVIOR IN PERCHLORIC-ACID OF ADSORBED RESIDUES FORMED AT OPEN CIRCUIT FROM THE ADSORPTION OF ACETALDEHYDE AND ETHANOL ON A PT(111) ELECTRODE

摘要
Three clearly defined voltammetric peaks are produced by the oxidation of residues originating in the irreversible dissociative adsorption of acetaldehyde or ethanol. Only one of them (centered at 0.74 V) has been identified and assigned to the oxidation of adsorbed CO. Moreover, an unidentified small broad reduction peak at approximately 0.55 V appears in the negative sweep. This work is devoted to the study of the nature of the organic residue causing the appearance of the second oxidation peak (0.67 V). From the results obtained it is deduced that this residue is a two carbon molecule which when oxidized yields acetic acid.
