摘要
A method is presented for the reconstruction of a source term in the linear diffusion equation. This is applied here to a problem of coastline evolution and sediment transport. The method is based upon inversion of the split-step solution, which is widely used to treat the related parabolic wave equation for propagation in inhomogeneous media. In this approach the effects of diffraction and scattering operators are treated separately, using the fact that their commutator is 'small' in an appropriate sense. It is explained how the method can also be applied to the recovery of the ocean sound-speed profile.
