摘要
1. 1. Incubation of erythrocytes containing carbon monoxide hemoglobin at 37° is oxygenated isotonic buffer after treatment with azoester at 1° leads to hemolysis in vitro. 2. 2. Hemolysis is only observed after the use of quantities of azoester greater than that required to oxidize all the intracellular GSH to GSSG. 3. 3. Hemolysis is explained as the consequence of membrane damage produced by the free radicals generated by excess azoester. 4. 4. Membrane damage occurs in the absence of GSH and leads to cell lysis. We term the phenomenon the GSH loss catastrophe". © 1969."
