摘要
Diapause larvae of Trogoderma granarium showed an enormous increase in the amount of fat, glycogen, and protein over that present in non-diapause larvae. In crowded conditions at 30°C when food was available they fed intermittently without breaking the diapause state, and during the 3 month period studied their body weight and the content of fat and glycogen were maintained more or less at a dynamically steady level. When denied access to food, during 2 months of diapause they utilized about 30 to 40 per cent and 51 per cent of their initial fat and glycogen contents, respectively. While no reduction could be established in the absolute amount of protein during the initial periods, there was a marked fall in protein at the end of a 9 month period of diapause in the absence of food. It is concluded that fat and glycogen are the chief sources of energy during diapause and that proteins may also be mobilized to underwrite the energy demands during prolonged diapause, when the stored fat and glycogen are considerably depleted in the absence of food. © 1969.
