The high affinity of the specific receptors in rat uterus and other target tissues for estrogens has led to the synthesis of selective absorbents consisting of estradiol immobilized on insoluble supports. Two such materials were prepared: polyvinyl-(N-phenylenemaleimide) (PVM)-estradiol which has the hormone bound to a PVM backbone through a 17α side chain, and p-aminobenzyl estradiol in which the 2 or 4 position of the estradiol molecules is joined to p-aminobenzylcellulose by azo linkage. Both of these preparations selectively remove the soluble receptor of rat uterus from solution. © 1969.
