Since a Higgs boson mass MH of the order 1 TeV is not unnatural in Weinberg-Salam type models, we look for corrections to the tree-level predictions due to a large MH. Our analysis indicates that (i) for energies far below MH, all such effects are shielded by several powers of the weak coupling constant g, (ii) the shielding disappears and a strongly interacting scalar sector should manifest itself around MH and beyond. The strongly low-energy suppression is shown to be a consequence of the chiral symmetry of the Higgs sector. © 1979.
