Adiabatic inversion processes are discussed for a two-level system. It was found that the required conditions for stable inversion are OMEGA-2/\d-DELTA/dt\greater-than-or-equal-to 0.5, DELTA(s)tau greater-than-or-equal-to 3 for Gaussian pulse and DELTA(s)/OMEGA greater-than-or-equal-to 11 for square pulse, where OMEGA, DELTA, DELTA(s) and tau represent Rabi frequency, detuning, frequency-sweep width and optical pulse width, respectively. It was also shown that for Gaussian pulse, adiabatic conditions of DELTA(s)/OMEGA and OMEGA-2/\d-DELTA/dt\ are related to each other, while for square pulse, both conditions are determined independently.
