STUDY OF SCHLIEREN DIAGNOSTICS TO INVESTIGATE FILAMENTATION IN PLASMAS WITH LONG DENSITY SCALE LENGTHS

摘要
We report on a feasibility study and first experimental results of filamentation in preformed, long scale length, very underdense laser plasmas. Calculations have shown that Schlieren diagnostics using an optical probe beam should be capable of detecting formation of filaments in such plasmas and first experimental results confirm this finding. Improvements in the present experimental setup are required for quantitative analysis of such experiments.
