摘要
Since 1985, digital accelerographs have been installed along a 500 km segment above the Mexican subduction one, at some inland sites which form an attenuation line between the Guerrero seismic gap and Mexico City, and in the Valley of Mexico. These networks have recorded a few large earthquakes and many moderate and small earthquakes. Analysis of the data has permitted a significant advance in the understanding of source characteristics, wave propagation and attenuation, and site effects. This, in turn, has permitted reliable estimations of ground motions from future earthquakes. This paper presents a brief summary of some important results which are having a direct bearing on current earthquake engineering practice in Mexico.
