Developmental stages of Ascaris suum and related metabolic substances (hatching fluid and larval secretions and excretions) were examined by immunoelectrophoretic analysis (IEA) for their antigenic components. A minimum of 12, 13, 14, 12, 19, and 21 antigens were found in soluble extracts of undeveloped eggs, first stage larvae (14-day embryonated eggs), infective eggs, hatched second-stage larvae, male adults, and female adults, respectively. Stage-specific antigens were identified in undeveloped eggs, first-stage larvae (eggs), infective eggs, and adults by IEA and antibody absorption. A minimum of five antigenic components were found in hatching fluid. These same components were found in unstimulated infective eggs but not in other egg stages. © 1969.
