摘要
A synthetic polycrystalline sample of beta-FeOOH was investigated by means of X-ray and thermal neutron diffraction. The classification of beta-FeOOH as belonging to the tetragonal system was confirmed and a set of coordinates of iron, oxygen, and hydrogen atoms in the unit cell is given. The spin ordering determined is of the layer kind: the magnetic moments in the particular layers are coupled ferromagnetically parallel to the c,-axis and antiferromagnetically between the layers.
