Photoionization resonance spectra I. Nitric oxide and benzene

摘要
A new method is described for the study of molecular ions. This method produces a signal only if the photon energy from a scanning monochromator matches with an optical resonance process. These photoionization resonances have the conventional appearance of an optical spectrum, being referenced to the calibration of an optical monochromator, Data for NO+(X-1 Sigma(+)) and C6H6+((X) over tilde E-2(1g)) but being related to the energy levels of the molecular ion. are shown. The presence of an electronic state of benzene, at 10.385 eV is reported. It is thought at this state corresponds to the removal of a sigma electron from the benzene molecule.
