COMBINATION OF FREQUENCY AND INTENSITY IN DIAGNOSTIC JUDGMENT

Bieri recognizes three formal parameters of behavior which influence personality judgments: frequency, intensity, and consistency. This paper examines the influence of frequency and intensity. Student-teachers judged descriptions of behavior of ten year old pupils in respect to intensity of aggressive-malevolent behavior. On the basis of these judgements the descriptions of behavior were scaled. Adverbs of frequency and combinations of adverbs of frequency and of descriptions of behavior were equally scaled. These combinations could be predicted out of both of the components frequency and intensity through a hyperplane of secondary order. The adaptation of theoretical to empirical values in addition to the cross-validation led to sufficient high coefficients of determination in two parallel scales. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
