HARD-SCATTERING SCALING LAWS FOR SINGLE-SPIN PRODUCTION ASYMMETRIES

摘要
The extraction of a scaling law of the form [(p(t)2 + mu-2)/mu-p(T)] A(N)-similar-g (x(T)) (where x(T) = 2p(T)/square-root s) from data on a single-spin production asymmetry such as A(N)d-sigma-(pp-up --> pi-0X) at large transverse momentum can be used to argue for an underlying "hard-scattering" mechanism. Data from the upcoming Fermilab polarized beam experiment (E-704) can be used to test the scaling hypothesis.
