摘要：

Nutritional support is an important component in the management of the septic patient. While it is recognized that both under- and overfeeding are potentially deleterious to the patient, determining what constitutes adequate and optimal support is still controversial. Both experimental and clinical studies are reviewed, and specific guidelines regarding nutritional support of the septic patient are provided. Additionally, practical aspects related to the implementation of nutritional support are high-lighted.
