Studies on development of eight species of flat fishes (Psettodes erumei, Brachypleura novae-zeelandiae, Pseudorhombus arsius, Bothus myriaster, Synaptura albomaculata, S. commersoniana, Cynoglossus arel and C. monopus) were carried out with plankton collections and with laboratory reared larvae. The development stages of Cynoglossus arel and C. monopus from egg to metamorphosis are described. © 1979.
