摘要
Autoionization spectroscopy provides a powerful tool to investigate the electronic structure of adsorbed atoms and molecules. Two applications of this technique are discussed. In the first example the x-ray absorption spectrum of molecularly adsorbed nitrogen is separated in terms of individual contributions relating to the two chemically inequivalent nitrogen atoms. In the second example autoionization is used as a tool to derive information about the interaction between adsorbed alkalis and metal substrates.
