EFFECT OF INELASTIC PROCESSES ON THE ELASTIC WIDTH IN RESONANT STRUCTURES

摘要
We show, using a resonance formalism, that the value of the elastic width for resonant tunneling is, in general, modified when inelastic processes are added to a purely coherent situation. For double-barrier resonant tunneling structures, a model calculation shows that the above effect is unimportant for weak inelastic processes but may become relevant when inelastic processes are strong. For this last case we find, in addition, that the tunneling current is inversely proportional to the inelastic width.
