FAR-INFRARED INTENSITY STUDIES OF COMPLEXES OF SOME PYRIDINE BASES WITH IODINE MONOCHLORIDE

Studies are reported of the far-infrared spectra of complexes of ICl with pyridine, 3-picoline, and 2,6-lutidine. The frequencies and the intensities are given for both the I-Cl stretching vibration (~290 cm-1) and the N-I stretching vibration (115-140 cm-1) measured for complexes dissolved in benzene. The measurements were made with a Beckman IR-11 far-infrared spectrometer, using polyethylene cells. Experimental techniques for intensity measurements in this region of the spectrum are discussed. Attempts to obtain normal coordinates are described. Some interpretation is given of these results in terms of the theory presented by Friedrich and Person. © 1968, American Chemical Society.
