MESOSCOPIC ENHANCEMENT OF ORBITAL MAGNETISM

摘要
We study of isothermal magnetization of a two-dimensional electron gas confined in one direction by a parabolic potential. We find that under mesoscopic conditions, when both the thermal energy and the cyclotron energy are smaller than the characteristic energy HBARomega0 corresponding to the parabolic confinement, the magnetization exhibits large oscillations. In comparision to the Landau diamagnetism, the amplitude of these oscillations is enhanced by a factor square-root k(F) upsilon(F)/omega0, where k(F) and upsilon(F) are the Fermi wave number and velocity, respectively.
