The sonographic anatomy of the ligaments and fissures of the liver is described. Fissures for the ligamentum venosum and the ligamentum teres, the fissure between the quadrate and right lobes (gallbladder fossa) and parts of the fissure for the porta hepatis are demonstrated. Since parts of the ligaments and fissures appear as strongly echogenic regions, it is important to recognize their anatomical origin, lest they be mistaken for pathological foci.
