摘要
Raman spectra of nanoparticles of ZnS and CdS have been studied. The effects of the dielectric constant of the medium surrounding the particles and the wavelength of the exciting radiation on the Raman lines hate been investigated with a view to locate and characterize the surface modes. The spectra have been found to be conspicuously different from those of the corresponding bulk materials, the lines being broader and frequency shifted compared to the bulk. This has been attributed to the finite size of the particles and the consequent breakdown of the selection rule for Raman scattering.
