TIME STRETCHING AND SHAPING OF RUBY LASER GIANT PULSES USING STIMULATED RAMAN SCATTERING

摘要
It was found that bringing the cell with liquid nitrogen into the laser resonator increases the giant ruby pulse duration, when SRS is excited. A pulse time stretching of 6÷8 times was observed, when a bleachable dye filter was used for Q-switching. The stretched pulse energy was about 70% of that of the initial pulse. Pulses of approximately rectangular shape and pulses with periodic structure were observed. When a rotating prism was used as a Q-switch, a pulse stretching up to 3.0 μs was observed. The output power was (0.30÷0.35) MW. The pulse duration was found to be a linear function of the pumping level. © 1969 Società Italiana di Fisica.
