MOLECULAR-REORIENTATION IN MONOLAYERS AT PARAFFIN - WATER INTERFACE

Stearic acid monomolecular films on 10-4M CaCl2 subsolutions were deposited on paraffin substrates by the Langmuir-Blodgett method over the pH range 2-9. The withdrawal contact angle developed during the deposition of the second monolayer was examined by a cinematographic technique. The contact angle behavior appears to be associated with changes in the molecular orientation of the immersed film molecules at the paraffin-water interface. Evidence for molecular reorientation is presented and discussed. © 1978.
