THE INFLUENCE OF MOLECULAR MASS OF POLY(VINYL CHLORIDE) ON THE STRUCTURE AND TRANSPORT CHARACTERISTICS OF ULTRAFILTRATION MEMBRANES

摘要
This paper deals with the results of investigations concerning the structure and transport characteristics of poly(vinyl chloride) membranes made from polymers differing in their molecular mass. Three kinds of poly(vinyl chloride)s were used, viz. PVC-S60, PVC-S64 and PVC-S68, with different Fikentscher numbers. All three polymers were produced in the Nitrogen Plant of Tarnow in Poland. Special attention was devoted to the structural properties of the membranes and the transport of water. Moreover, the separating properties of membranes with the same water flux but made from polymers of different molecular mass were compared. The main parameters affecting the aforesaid properties of the investigated membranes were: the molecular mass of poly(vinyl chloride); the concentration of the polymer in the casting solution; and, the pressure of ultrafiltration process.
