PHYSICOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE BEHAVIOR OF SILICONE OILS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF HIGH-VOLTAGE STRESS

摘要
Silicone oils of different molecular composition and viscosity were subjected to high voltage stress in a tip-plane test cell. At low voltage stable injection currents were observed the magnitude of which depended on the molecular structure. The breakdown voltage showed a polarity effect with the tip negative exhibiting higher values. These results are discussed on the basis of space charge limited current injection. Chemical decomposition of the oils under discharge conditions was investigated by analyzing the gases produced. The amount of gas was found to be proportional to the total charge which passed through the liquid in the discharge while the composition was determined by the intensity of the discharge. © 1979.
