(115) GROWTH IN BORON-DOPED SYNTHETIC DIAMONDS

Synthetic diamonds grow with cubo-octahedral morphology frequently modified by {110} and {113} facets. A new form of crystal face has been observed in boron-doped synthetic diamonds grown using Co-Fe as the solvent/catalyst. Optical goniometer measurements showed that these faces had {115} orientation. Internal {115} growth horizons were observed by cathodoluminescence topography, thus confirming the presence of true {115} growth sectors. The uncompensated acceptor concentration for each type of growth sector was measured by infrared spectroscopy. For a sample with a relatively low degree of boron doping, the uncompensated acceptor concentration in the {115} sectors was greater than in {113} sectors, whereas for a sample with a relatively high degree of boron doping, the concentration was greater in the {113} than in the {115} sectors.
