LOCALLY RESOLVED C-13 HYPERFINE SHIFTS IN (DME-DCNQI)2-M RADICAL-ANION SALTS - A COMPARATIVE-STUDY

C-13 was used as a spin probe to investigate both the metal-cyano complex and the quinoid ring system in a variety of conducting DCNQI salts. By a shift correlation analysis of different carbon positions it was possible to establish a common trend in systems with different metal ions. The observed carbon Knight shifts were used to determine the local electronic susceptibility for different DMe-DCNQI salts. For the Cu-salt this led to a decomposition of the known total susceptibility into local contributions assigned to the DCNQI stack and the copper ions, respectively. This allowed us to determine the degree of the charge transfer. Two C-13 cyano resonances with contrary temperature dependences were observed in the case of (DMe-DCNQI)2Na. Considering the crystal structure, these two resonances could be assigned to non-equivalent DCNQI stacks.
