VOLTAMMETRIC BEHAVIOR OF RED-OX COUPLES AND SOLVATION IN FUSED ANTIMONY TRICHLORIDE

摘要
Gibbs free energies, ΔG°, have been determined experimentally for processes of the type [FORMULA OMMITTED] in a fused antimony trichloride solvent at 99°C. Concomitantly “theoretical free energy assignments”, ΔGhave been computed for the corresponding reactions [FORMULA OMMITTED] The relevant experimental assignments of ΔG° have been derived from voltammetric measurements involving the galvanic cells [FORMULA OMMITTED] ΔGth was evaluated from thermodynamic data available in the literature. Based on a judicious comparison of ΔG° and ΔGth, solvation energies of MCInn were estimated for various metallic chlorides in antimony trichloride. Such free energy assignments have been utilized to predict general trends of redox equilibria in antimony trichloride. © 1969, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
