We report on a method that allows us to determine the static structure factor S(q) accurately in a wide range of reciprocal space (1 less-than-or-equal-to q less-than-or-equal-to 30 angstrom-1). For this purpose angular and energy dispersive X-ray scattering is combined to yield overlapping parts of S(q). The primary beam spectrum is derived self-consistently from the data. We discuss in detail the various corrections necessary to derive S(q). Finally, we present data for the amorphous alloys Fe75Co21B4, Fe82B18, Ni78Si8B14 as well as Pd30Zr70. Some difficulties are still present, stemming mainly from the roughness (+/- 0.1 mm) of our samples, since these measurements were done in reflection geometry.
