INFLUENCE OF SOLVENT POLARITY ON INTRAMOLECULAR ELECTRON-TRANSFER - A CONSISTENCY TEST OF FREE-ENERGIES OF REACTION AND SOLVENT REORGANIZATION WITH EXPERIMENTAL RATES

摘要
We present time-resolved fluorescence measurements at room temperature on an intramolecular electron transfer compound in 13 solvents of different polarity. The estimate of the free energy change ΔGcs of the electron transfer is based on an interpolation between experimental data, the solvent reorganization energy λs is calculated theoretically in the continuum and mean spherical approximations. Taking the solvent dependence of these quantities into account an analysis in terms of conventional nonadiabatic electron transfer theory provides a surprisingly consistent interpretation of the experimental data. © 1990.
